Eight
years ago I was introduced to the wonderful sport of windsurfing.
(You can read more about my windsurfing activities on the windsurfing
page) The island of Aruba happens to be one of the top windsurfing
destinations in the world, surpassed only by the Columbia River
"George" in Oregon and the island of Maui. This past summer I
had the opportunity to live and work in Aruba for three months.
While I was down there I took a lot of photos!

A lot of my time in Aruba was spent
relaxing on the beach watching (and photographing) the sunset and
taking in the breathtaking beauty of this island. Here are a few self-portraits
of me. Also included in this album are a some pictures of my dad who
came to visit me for a few days. |

The island is a great place but
let's get to why I came down here
for the
windsurfing! These photographs were taken by my girlfriend Crystal
and my friend Brad who both came down to visit me. All of these photos
were taken at the world famous fisherman's huts. A lot of credit has
to be given to the photographers here: Taking pictures while: standing
on a reef in waist deep water, with 25 MPH winds, while holding an
$800 digital camera, and trying to photograph somebody moving at 30
MPH is NOT easy! (For you windsurfing geeks out there I am riding
an F2
Ride 274 (103L) with a Neilpryde
6.2 Diablo and a 5.4 Supersonic) |

So where did you live when you
were in Aruba? I did not feel like paying $200 a night to stay in
one of the high-rise hotels ;) So instead I paid $400 a MONTH to stay
in a little
apartment 20 yards from the beach and the greatest windsurfing
in the world! This place was AWESOME! It was a "beach-house"
with 5 small suites surrounding the house. The house included a beautiful
tropical garden and was run by a very friendly German couple. |

When Brad learned that I had secured
an apartment for the summer that had an extra bed in it
he jumped
at the opportunity to come to Aruba. Brad had never windsurfed before
but by the end of the week we had him in the harness and sailing well.
Here are a few pictures
of Brad tearing it up @ the Fisherman's Huts |

After Brad left, my girlfriend
Crystal came down to visit me for a week. We had a wonderful time
together. I was able to take most of the week off from work. I even
got her out windsurfing a little and scuba diving. |

There is no question that Aruba
is a beautiful
island with many interesting features. The Divi Divi Tree on the
left is just one of the many things you can see on the island. On
a rare day when the wind was not blowing I borrowed a friends car
and took some photo's of the island. |
